Comic Book Tesseract 2012.06.13

While the dads celebrate their day, the comic universe explodes with some good reads.  While Jason misses the witty banter with Justin, he reviews a large stack of books, including some that are not covered as often on the show.   From the fantastic Valen the Outcast to GI Joe Cobra, from the Amazing Spider-Man to Spider-Men, this is what came out in Comics.

Comic Book Tesseract - 2012.05.23

Comic Book Tesseract, the weekly comics netcast that is bigger on the inside than it is on the outside. Every week we review and preview the world of comics along with other facets of geek-chic culture.

It’s a Memorial Day 2-for-1 special as this weeks episode comes clocking in at just under TWO HOURS! But what a glorious two hours it is!

Make the time to listen because Jason and Justin cover a lot of ground this week, talking about everything from Grant Morrison’s tenuous grasp on reality to the woes of independent publishers and distributors. They also have a rather thought-provoking discussion on alternative sexualities in comics and how they might be better depicted. And these are just the rabbit holes they go down!

Comics reviewed this week include: Batman Incorporated #1, Irredeemable (Final Issue), Unwritten, Superman, The Guild: Fawkes, and Smoke and Mirrors. All that plus news, this week on the Tesseract.

Comic Book Tesseract - 2012.05.02

Comic Book Tesseract, the weekly comics netcast that is bigger on the inside than it is on the outside. Every week we review and preview the world of comics along with other facets of geek-chic culture.

THIS WEEK
DC has brought back the multi-verse in the new 52 with the launch of Earth-2 and Worlds Finest. Action Comics gets in on the multiple earths action by following the Superman of Earth-23. And speaking of returns - Valiant Comics is back with the release of X-O Manowar #1.

Also, did you know May 5th was Free Comic Book Day, or did you waste it sucking back Coronas and Margaritas? If you did know, then hopefully you spent some time at your FLCS(tm) picking up some free titles. Jason and Justin discuss what did and didn’t work this year along with suggestions of which ones were best to get young, new readers introduced into the world of comics.

All that and the cheque that bought Superman this week on the Tesseract!

Comic Book Tesseract 2012.04.24

Jason once again takes the reins and discusses the last issue of G.I. Joe: Snake Eyes before its title changes, the new title change for Captain America and Hawkeye, formerly known as Captain America and Bucky. Cap's solo title is also tackled this week. All Star Western heads into Night of Owls, just how far back does the court's history in Gotham go? Batman The Dark Knight has a one shot story before diving into the Night of Owls, is this a good filler story? Near Death begins its new arc and delves deeper into redemption, it it worth the trip? Jason returns to reading Wolverine, is it a worthwhile bloody tale? Plus the big Marvel event Avengers vs. X-Men crosses into Uncanny X-Men and gives birth to VS; has Marvel made these worth picking up as part of the main event?
Plus don't forget Free Comic Book Day is May 5th 2012 so stop by your local comic shop.

Comic Book Tesseract - 2012.04.18

Comic Book Tesseract, the weekly comics netcast that is bigger on the inside than it is on the outside. Every week we review and preview the world of comics along with other facets of geek-chic culture.

LET THE FLAME WAR BEGIN! Justin and Jason delve this week into the Marvel and DC flagship titles of Justice League and Avengers vs. X-Men and discuss the unique attributes of both the issues and their respective publishers. What is it that makes the fanboys tick on each side of this argument?

Additionally, the Night of the Owls event has begun in the Bat Family books and the first episode of The Legend of Korra is free right now on Zune. Go watch it before M. Knight Shama-llama-ding-dong gets to it!

Comic Book Tesseract - 2012.04.11

Comic Book Tesseract, the weekly comics netcast that is bigger on the inside than it is on the outside. Every week we review and preview the world of comics along with other facets of geek-chic culture.

This week, Justin’s back and behind a mic again; so, it’s a good thing Jason’s here to keep him focused (mostly) on comics. The big discussion of this week is on the adaptation of classic properties into their iconic, pop-culture representations. This is compared and contrasted in discussions of Unwritten, Smoke & Mirrors, and Peter Panzerfaust. Carnage U.S.A. concludes this month. Was the mini-series a worthy reintroduction of Carnage back to the Marvel Universe? Meanwhile Saga, Green Lantern and Winter Soldier continue to churn along, each in their own inimitable fashion. All this and news, on this week’s Comic Book Tesseract.

Comic Book Tesseract - 2012.03.14

This week’s show is a little longer than normal, clocking in at nearly an hour and a half - but it's because there is just that much awesome to talk about!  Saga and Avengers Assemble both premiere this week.  Suicide Squad, Incredible Hulk and Unwritten all finish their current story arcs.  And finally, both Justin and Jason agree that Green Lantern is good again.  All this, plus comic and video game news of the week, on the Tesseract.

Comic Book Tesseract - 2012.03.07

The Age of Apocalypse is upon us! (What, again?) Valen continues to be enjoyable. Detective Comics finishes its second mini-arc. Ultimate Spider-man confronts family issues. And Irredeemable is regaining its feet after some rough story arcs.

Also, are Archie Comics progressive or merely catching up to the status quo? And, should publishers respect the wishes of artists regarding their work-for-hire properties when it comes to new printings?

Comic Book Tesseract - 2012.02.29

This week brings us the last issue of Joe Hill’s The Cape and the end of the first Justice League story arc. Voltron finally starts making sense. Jason forces Justin to read the new Batman Beyond Unlimited and Amazing Spider-man #680 (neither of which took much convincing). Also, can comics teach economics? Valiant comics is back, but Bill Murry isn’t. And the Ghastly Awards are rewarding.
